The project has 4 activities
1 – Three ‘communities of practices’ of 2 days will be held in resp. Italy (Bergamo), Belgium (Leuven) and The Netherlands (Den Haag). The themes are resp. the economic, health and social impact benefit of the use by cities and municipalities of their open space for sports and exercise.
2 – Creation of an e-platform as an instrument for cities and municipalities throughout the EU to easily and independently set up ‘communities of practices’ about sports and exercise.
3 – Searching and publishing in one overview the national networks of cities and municipalities in terms of sport and physical activity in the 28 EU member states, as a means to promote cross-border ‘communities of practices’.
4 – An EU forum in Leuven (Belgium) in Spring 2021, to establish the agenda for Active Local Europe for 2021-2027. The participants are the national networks of cities and municipalities for sports and physical activity from the 28 EU member states, the European umbrella associations of the national networks of cities and municipalities, the EU institutions (such as the Unit Sport of the European Commission), the EU sports umbrella organizations and the 9 cities in the project.
The methodology of the project is to facilitate 'communities of practices'. The four project activities start and end with the objective of allowing cities and municipalities to find each other as simply and directly as possible in order to collaborate in projects, clusters, research ... in terms of sport and physical activity.
The planned duration of the project is from 1 January 2019 to 30 June 2021.
The ultimate goal of the project is to create opportunities for cities and municipalities in the EU to give their citizens a feeling of belonging, in an open society, and to be healthy and happy.
